Hand Woven Scarf – Evening Heather

Description This beautiful scarf is, as all my woven pieces are, unique. I have woven it in my Spinnery, on my gorgeous Saori loom. The warp is black cotton which allows the lovely greens, purples and deep pinks of the weft yarn to take centre stage. The weft yarn is predominantly merino that I have hand spun with some hand dyed, hand spun silk, some commercially spun Italian silk and a little commercially spun wool yarn. Lots of the weft is hand spun in my Evening Heather colourway while some is in a deep cerise pink. I have added pops of colour and texture by incorporating pieces of richly coloured silk ribbon. The scarf is beautifully soft and cosy with lots of different areas of interest. I have woven this scarf with the Saori maxim of ‘weave from the heart’. This means that once I had chosen my colours and materials, I allowed myself to weave freely. I changed from one yarn to another and added silk ribbon as and when the feeling took me. Therefore this scarf is a piece of wearable art, through this weaving process I was free to express myself from moment to moment. The process was a joy! This scarf is unique and will remain so. In the light of it being the only one on the planet, please hand wash it gently in cool water. Squeeze, don’t wring. Roll it up in a towel and squeeze to get as much moisture out as possible and then hang to dry. Don’t even talk about tumble driers in the same room as this piece of wearable art! Properly looked after, this scarf will keep the wearer cosy and feeling very special for decades.
