Edwardian Pale Green Painted Housekeeper’s Cupboard
$ 90.88
Edwardian Painted Housekeeper’s Cupboard A very honest and nicely proportioned Edwardian painted housekeeper’s or linen cupboard, with a soft pale green painted finish and full country house character. Standing over two metres tall with a moulded cornice above double cupboard doors, the upper section opens to reveal deep internal shelving and in the lower section beneath sit four generous graduated drawers. This is decorative without being overly formal and with enough age and wear to feel entirely authentic. The soft green paint has mellowed over time with gentle rubbing and age-related marks that add to its charm, while the stripped pine interior shelves and soft apricot paint on the back of the doors make a nice warm contrast against the muted exterior. A versatile piece that could be used in a bedroom, kitchen, pantry, boot room or sitting room, offering lots of storage space without feeling overly heavy or cumbersome. Importantly, it doesn’t feel like a reproduction pretending to be old, this one absolutely has the construction, backboards and honest wear you want to see. Even better, it comes from the Estate of the late John Rollo Somerset-Paddon of Chalk Newton House here in Dorset, which only adds to its story. A proper English country house cupboard with genuine age, scale and presence, getting increasingly difficult to find in such untouched condition.
